Should You List Things On Your Resume That Are Not True About You?
Should You List Things On Your Resume That Are Not True About You?The three things you should not do when you are writing your resume are: putting things on it that are not true about you, making it sound like an advertisement, and presenting yourself in a manner that is not objective. You may be tempted to make all these points as a justification for why you don't use a resume writer, but they are absolutely not true. I don't care how good they are at what they do if the final product is not well written and expresses the information you need to have in your resume, you don't need to use one.The best way to get a job is to show that you are valuable to someone else and the reason they need to hire you is because of that. If the person reading your resume decides that you look more like a salesman or a sales person than a professional, they are not going to have any desire to hire you. If you were hired without ever selling yourself, you wouldn't be worried about a resume at all, rig ht? So, your job is to present yourself in the best possible light to the person who wants to hire you.You will be doing this by telling the truth about yourself and letting them know what you can do for them and what you can't do for them. This is the first thing you should not do when you are writing your resume. There is nothing wrong with being honest. People can see through that sort of BS easily. They are judging you based on the content of your resume and if they feel you aren't telling them the truth they will dismiss you as quickly as possible.Think about it. A lot of times if you put something on your resume that you don't really believe in, you will end up with a really bad resume. For example, if you said you were born in South Africa then you will end up with a very poor resume because that isn'ttrue. The same goes for if you said you worked as a newspaper delivery boy. When you are writing your resume you should think about how truthful and authentic your resume is and if it has a real point. That is the only time you should be making a mistake because if you have a point and you're truthful about it you will be able to convince the person reading your resume that you are very valuable.Second, you should consider that you are not writing your resume to sell yourself. Employers want to hire the kind of person who will work hard for them and not in a shallow way. The resume writing process is a sales process and as such the person who ends up having the better resume will be the one who sell themselves in the process. So, you should make sure that the information you are presenting to the person reading your resume has value to them.Third, it is okay to throw things on your resume that you don't know anything about. A lot of us tend to do this because we just don't want to make mistakes. But the problem is that even if you are comfortable with your resume there is no reason you should have to cover everything. Remember, the person reading your resum e will already have that information so they don't need you to know all the answers. So, do these things for one thing only and go on and write a very good resume. Don't allow yourself to take on too much when you are trying to get a job.
